Wilting of plant is due to unavailability of water to the upper portion of the plant. Water conduction takes place through xylem. Xylem carries water absorbed by the root hairs, from the roots to the upper parts of the plant. If blockage in the xylem occurs, the water is not transported to the upper parts and hence wilting occurs, in want of water.
