HSK pathway is also called as C₄ cycle. It was discovered by Hatch and Slack (1965,67). In this cycle the first primary product after CO₂ fixation is a four carbon compound namely, oxaloacetate (OAA or oxaloacetic acid). That is why it is known as C₄ cycle. This cycle is also known as dicarboxylic acid pathway. The cycle operates in plants like sugarcane.
